Ambassador since 2008
Pituophis catenifer sayi
- Billy joined the Hickory Knolls ambassador team when his owner moved to Australia. At that time Billy was between 1 and 2 years of age and measured 3 feet in length. Today he stretches more than 8 feet.
- One of Billy’s parents was an albino, so his coloration is notably lighter than what is seen in wild individuals.
- Bullsnakes get their common name from their tendency to hiss loudly when agitated. To some people that hiss sounds like the snort of a bull.
- Bullsnakes are large and powerful constrictors. In the wild their diet consists of rodents, small rabbits, frogs, lizards and ground-dwelling birds.
- At Hickory Knolls, Billy primarily feeds on frozen, thawed rodents.
